Online payments by cards will be even more secure

News

From 1 January 2021, stricter security requirements for card payments at e-commerce sites come into force. The purpose of the requirements is to ensure additional security of online card payments and to reduce the risk of possible fraud or illegal payments.

You will be able to pay successfully in those e-shops of the European Economic Area that have implemented strict security standards that meet the requirements of the European Union and are marked with the Mastercard Identity Check™ mark.

With stricter requirements in place, customers don’t need to do anything. Šiaulių bankas will limit payments with payment cards in those e-commerce sites that do not meet the requirements of the European Union and do not apply strong customer authentication (SCA) standards, therefore, if the payment fails, we recommend that you first contact the seller and inquire about the situation.

The requirement to comply with the SCA will not apply to e-shops located in countries outside the European Economic Area.

The application of these SCA standards is a requirement set by the European Union in addition to the Second Payment Services Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council.
